Freedom

I am thinking about freedom today as we move towards Memorial Day. I was able to see a monument to all the Allied Forces who died in WWII that was placed in a garden area outside Buckingham Palace. It depicted several different service men in bronze, different branches of the military, and it said: 

"Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it." - Pericles 

We talk a lot about "getting free" being "set free", which is awesome, yet it takes courage to defend it.  In reading through Joshua 1:6,7,9 we see several times, "Be strong and courageous..."  What this tells us is we can be given much, but we have to defend it.  So when things happen to us that are hurtful, unfair, or when our old false guilt gets triggered,  we must remember the promises, the truth about ourselves, and listen to the Spirit speaking to our hearts though we may feel overwhelmed, inadequate, etc., and recognize that the battle is His, but we are, as my friend Theta says, "his chosen vessel."

You are strong and courageous because of whose you are.
